The 2B Scholarship is a one-time $1000 disbursement administered by the Oakland Promise. This scholarship was created in 2016 by Jo and Norm Budman, Oakland public school advocates, to provide Oakland Promise awarded scholarship recipients from New Highland Academy (some of whom they tutored) with an incentive to stay in school and graduate from high school knowing there would be supplementary funding for their first year in college. The 2B Scholarship is named to encourage students to make the life choice ‘2B’ instead of ‘not 2B.’ To donate to the scholarship, visit here and select “Scholarships: 2B Scholarship Fund.”
