Founded in 2016, Oakland Promise is a citywide movement with over 50 implementation partners working towards our common vision. Oakland Promise supports children and families from birth through college and career to ensure that postsecondary success is a reality for all Oaklanders. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, that provide a cradle to career continuum of college-focused supports for students. Our goal is to dramatically increase the number of college graduates from Oakland and ensure that all students hold a college-bound identity. Job Purpose:

Oakland Promise seeks a detail-oriented and passionate Senior Manager, Finance and Reporting with strong finance and accounting skills. This role reports to the CFOO and oversees a dynamic team of 2 colleagues. This is a full-time exempt role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Financial management

  1. Analyze and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, clearly communicate financial information to support budget management and oversee all financial program and grants accounting. 
  2. Maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit cards and oversee the month end and year end close.
  3. Establishes, maintains and applies contract management skills to close receivables cycles with funders and government agencies.
  4. Responsible for funding the child savings account.
  5. Maintaining gift cards for the organization.
  6. Oversee a robust financial management and reporting system and ensure that contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to.
  7. Manage and monitor all the banking and investment accounts for the organization with the CFOO.
  8. Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  9. Coordinate and lead the annual and program audit process and tax return; liaise with external auditors, CFOO and the Finance committee; and implement changes as directed by the CFOO.
  10. Acting as an agent of the department in supporting budgeting process and measurements for the organization as directed by the CFOO.
  11. Conduct overhead allocation analysis.
  12. Support the CFOO in ensuring compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.
  13. File routine government documents and ensure that corporate information is updated timely.
  14. Prepare and distribute internal monthly financial reports comparing budgets to actuals and variance analysis
  15. Prepare contracts for signature.
  16. Maintain the Chart of Accounts.

Grant reporting

  1. Develop and administer documents, budgets and reports for funders, external agencies and vendors as required.
  2. Responsible for planning, organizing and formulating reporting for a number of programs in fulfillment of grants and contracts entered into by Oakland Promise with outside agencies.
  3. Oversee the financial aspect of all grant reporting which includes financial tracking and work in collaboration with the development team.
  4. Work with the development team in applying for new grants.

Strategy, planning and risk

  1. Actively participate at the senior leader table 
  2. Work with CFOO and CEO in preparation of operating and strategic plan.
  3. Work with the CFOO and CEO to prepare an maintain a risk management plan.

Board and Committee Support

  1. Prepare board and committee meeting package and support the CFOO, CEO and finance committee.

Office Management:

  1. Maintain vendor relationships, lease, insurance and ensure smooth operations of the office.
  2. Follow procedures relating to retention, protection, retrieval, transfer and disposal of records.
  3. Other accounting and finance projects as assigned.

Qualifications and requirements:

  1. 10 years experience in accounting; preferably non profit accounting.
  2. Masters Degree/CPA/ MBA Is desirable or equivalent years of non profit experience.
  3. Prior forensic accounting work or education is a plus.
  4. Experience using Netsuite and Salesforce is a plus.
  5. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  6. Strong understanding of GAAP and non profit accounting.
  7. Solid understanding of cash flow movement in an organization.
  8. Strong attention to detail and a team player.
  9. Must be driven to meet deadlines
  10. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  11. Sound business acumen, solid interpersonal skills.
