About Oakland Promise:

Oakland Promise’s (“OP”) mission is to engage the Oakland community to advance equity and economic mobility through cradle-to-career achievement.  OP is available to young learners (from newborns to college students) and their families who reside in Oakland.  We offer every child the financial resources, educational programming, mentorship, and supportive community to help them and their families seek out and thrive in higher education and the career of their choosing.  OP achieves its work through four key programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College, College Access, and College Completion.

Oakland Promise Kindergarten to College (K2C) helps K through 5th graders in Oakland think of themselves as college career-bound individuals. We provide scholarships, technical support and incentives to families who open a family-owned college savings account. Additionally, we provide program support to build a college- and career-going identity within students, which includes college visits, family and student workshops, scholarship celebrations, and more.

Oakland Promise is a place-based organization, necessitating all team members to be available in-person at our office, located at 484 9th Street, Oakland, California 94607. Our staff currently follows a hybrid schedule, spending at least three days collaborating either in the office or schools/community and two days working remotely. As a community organization, we prioritize doing what is best for our community work, and as such the requirement to be available for a full in-person work week may be mandated at any time.

About the Role:

The Program Coordinator plans, coordinates, and oversees programs and projects for Kindergarten to College (K2C). The Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the K2C budget and records pertaining to the program expenditures, implementing policies and procedures, and organizing the activities and agenda for the program. The Coordinator is also responsible for implementing the K2C program transitional strategy into the College Access program.

  • Under the supervision of the K2C Director, the Program Coordinator will implement the K2C strategy aligned with supporting Oakland public schools.
  • Ensure that a cohort (10-13) of our K2C schools implement the program with fidelity
  • Conduct monthly site visits to continue to cultivate relationships with K2C school-based teams
  • Organize K2C program events, ie: celebrations, launches, or workshops to increase engagement with students and parents.
  • Project-plan, manage, and lead the Fall and Spring K2C convenings with school teams on the upcoming K2C work at sites. 
  • Provide training and support for school staff to facilitate K2C informational meetings with parents/students as well as, support at CSA sign-up events.
  • Design, develop and help implement enrollment processes for 529 accounts
  • Analyze community needs and population biannually to ensure K2C is providing equitable support to all Oakland families.
  • Evaluate current strategies on community partnership engagement and enhance as needed to strengthen the K2C impact, including looking for new untapped relationships
  • Evaluate current partnerships annually to ensure that they are high-impact and aligned
  • Manage and support the Transitional Collaboration work with the College Access Program
  • Support the creation of materials relevant to K2Cʼs general program, including but not limited to: College Savings Assistant program, financial education, asset building, and post-secondary education
  • Partner with the Communication team to provide media outreach as needed, i.e. press releases
  • Responsible for regular monitoring of my529 accounts, including scheduling communications to families with CSAs, confirmation of enrollment, and initial $50 incentive deposit
  • Responsible for updating your own individual data, managing Asana, Salesforce, my529, and OutcomeTracker systems, and ensuring all information is current, relevant, and timely
  • Support with K2C accountability and progress towards short and long-term goals
  • Stay relevant and up-to-date on other CSA programs, college-going culture, etc.
  • Support with at least 3 organization-wide Oakland Promise events each year, outside of K2C event requirements
  • Be a team player, acting as a thought partner to K2C teammates and adding to the development of the team
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines required.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
  • Commitment to educational equity.
  • Some evenings and weekend hours will be required.
  • Own vehicle/transportation for travel to sites.

 Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to communicate in another language other than English.
  • Experience creating and modifying training materials.
  • Experience in education, direct experiences in schools with students, families, and community preferred.
  • Management, education policy and teaching experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Full-time exempt position
  • The hiring range for this role is $ 66,000 to $75,000 based on skill sets and experience.
