The mission of Oakland Promise is to engage the Oakland community to advance equity and economic mobility through cradle-to-career educational opportunities. Founded in 2016, Oakland Promise is a citywide movement with over 50 implementation partners working towards our common vision. Oakland Promise supports children and families from birth through college and career to ensure that postsecondary success is a reality for all Oaklanders. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College (K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, that provide a cradle to career continuum of college-focused supports for students. Our goal is to dramatically increase the number of college graduates from Oakland and ensure that all students hold a college-bound identity. Job Summary:

The Kindergarten to College (K2C) helps K- 5th graders in Oakland think of themselves as college-and career-bound. We work with elementary schools across Oakland, and work closely with school teams to connect with families and students. Specifically, we work with school teams to get families signed up for our Oakland Promise Scholarship, to open college savings accounts, and to conduct college and career workshops for students and families.

K2C is one of four programs within Oakland Promise working to ensure that every child will graduate from high school with the expectation, skills, and resources to complete college and/or be successful in the career of their choice.

Being supervised by the Senior Program Manager, the Associate is responsible for supporting the work of the K2C team. The Associate will ensure that the work meets the needs of all students and families, specifically those who have been historically marginalized. While the person in this role will have the opportunity to work with students, the majority of the work involves interacting with families, school staff and community members.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Kindergarten to College Implementation
  • Ensure that a cohort (~10-14) of our K2C schools implement the program with fidelity
  • Organize and lead K2C programming: scholarship celebrations and account activation, workshops facilitation as needed, college and career week; student enrichment kit distribution
  • Support additional engagement events that drive towards schools’ K2C goals
  • Conduct site visits – mostly in-person – to continue to cultivate relationships with K2C school-based teams
  • Communicate Oakland Promise-wide events
  • Train school staff and/or facilitate K2C informational meetings with families/students & support with scholarship account activation and/or college savings account
  • Design, enhance  and implement outreach strategies to engage families in K2C 
  • Maintain accurate and updated school records – logging, tracking and analyzing school cohort data regularly
  • Program Content & Infrastructure Development 
    1. Lead our 5th grade support strategy, and support with other program design elements
    2. Lead post-secondary workshop content development for the team use during family-facing presentations
    3. Support with community partnership outreach and build out
    4. Support with data and other program infrastructure
  • Organize and/or support  K2C events for Oakland Promise K2C schools
    1. Project plan and lead K2C events, as determined
    2. Plan and lead Oakland Promise Scholarship specific events
    3. Support in planning & executing K2C’s College and Career Week
  • Communications
    1. Create templates, documents and resources that support K2C program outreach
  • Other
    1. Research CSAs, building a college-bound identity, etc. as needed
    2. Be a team player and support with general Oakland Promise events
    3. If bilingual, provide translation and/or interpretation support
    4. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Spanish-speaking
  • Deep commitment to educational equity
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent attention to details, and ability to manage multiple competing deadlines required
  • Excellent interpersonal and writing skills
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required
  • Own vehicle/transportation for travel to sites
  • Creative individual that is willing to implement a variety of engagement strategies
  • Intrinsically motivated individually that is respectfully persistent when needed and empathetic

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching background (highly preferred)
  • Ability to communicate in another language other than English
  • Experience creating and modifying training materials
  • Experience in education, direct experiences in schools with students, families and community preferred  
  • Management, education policy and/or teaching experience preferred

Compensation:

  • Salary $63k-$65k 
  • Full-time exempt position
