About Oakland Promise

Oakland Promise is working to ensure that every Oakland child will graduate from high school
with the expectation, skills, and resources to complete college and be successful in the career of
their choice. Oakland Promise includes four programs: Brilliant Baby, Kindergarten to College
(K2C), Future Centers, and College Scholarships and Completion, that provide a cradle to career
continuum of college-focused support for students. Our program strategies touch the lives of
children and families in early childhood (ages 0-5), elementary, middle, and high school,
culminating in multi-year scholarships and support for students in college. Our goal is to
dramatically increase the number of college graduates from Oakland and ensure that all
students, regardless of background, hold a college-bound identity. Oakland Promise provides
two-year and four-year college scholarships and mentoring to Oakland public high school
students. We are especially interested in skilled individuals committed to social change, who
want to ensure the success of students underrepresented in college, attend, and graduate and
expand their life opportunities. College Completion serves over 2000 scholars in postsecondary
education.

Basic Function:

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Program Manager, College Completion, is responsible for
working with staff, volunteers, students, parents, and other relevant persons to support Oakland
Promise’s College Completion program. The Senior Program Manager will manage staff and
cross-collaborate within other programs to carry out the strategic plan of Oakland Promise to
ensure it is addressed in all aspects of program planning and execution, ensuring Oakland
students have equitable access to programs and services needed to graduate from
postsecondary education.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise a team of Oakland Promise Advisors (OP) who provide holistic and high touch
    support for a caseload of Scholars and Mentors
  • Supervise and develop metrics and goals for OP Advisors. In addition, provide guidance
    and opportunities for growth for OP Advisors
  • Incorporate new student management systems (Salesforce) to ensure Advisors are
    maintaining accurate information about Scholars, documenting Scholar engagement,
    managing assigned tasks and other administrative tasks
  • Develop a robust curriculum for OP Advisors related to holistic student development
    particularly in the areas of academic advising, financial aid, health and wellness support,
    and career development
  • Develop, tailor, and execute targeted 3rd year and 4th year programming focused on
    addressing persistence, retention and needs of Scholars
  • Experience in hiring, setting attainable metrics and supporting staff
  • Construct an environment for OP Advisors to learn, grow and perform their work with
    compassion and integrity
  • Identify and develop partnerships with community organizations that support the mission
    and vision of Oakland Promise
  • Collaborate with Co-Senior Manager, Managers and Coordinators in designing and
    executing student programming such as workshops, career conferences, and other
    college completion events
  • Regularly analyze and evaluate Scholar’s data to develop data-driven and
    student-centered interventions to better support Scholars
  • Construct and maintain cross-functional integrated projects with all programs within
    Oakland Promise
  • Strategize and collaborate with Co-Senior Manager in addressing program changes and
    the scaling for services of Oakland Promise
  • Capture, maintain and communicate programming impact to all stakeholders
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of professional experience in either
    college access/advising services/persistence/mentoring, or related skills
  • Minimum three years’ experience cultivating partnerships with community based
    organizations to deepen the impact of college and career readiness programming
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Experience on delivering outcomes despite obstacles, seeks out challenges as
    opportunities to grow
  • Event planning skills, excellent interpersonal, writing skills and experience with public speaking
  • Deep commitment to and passion for the vision of the Oakland Promise
  • Demonstrates ability to cultivate and leverage resources to achieve outcomes
  • Ability to pass a fingerprint, background check, and TB test
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Familiarity with
    Salesforce Database, WordPress
  • Experience managing budgets and expense to ensure that programming remain within
    cost parameters
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience or knowledge of methods for academic advising, assessment and evaluation
  • Experience with Salesforce Database and FormAssembly is desirable
  • Direct experience working with college students, volunteers, families, and community
  • Knowledge of, and connections to, Oakland’s educational climate and communities

Compensation:

  • A full-time non-exempt position with medical, dental, and vision benefits
