Kyra Mungia

Kyra Mungia is a Program Manager for the Oakland Promise, supporting the areas of early childhood development, collective impact, talent, and general operations. As a former OUSD Kindergarten teacher, Kyra knows the importance of ensuring all students enter school “kindergarten-ready” and is committed to improving educational outcomes across Oakland.

After graduating from Brown University, Kyra began teaching in Oakland as a Teach for America ‘13 corps member. She taught kindergarten and 1st grade at Horace Mann Elementary where she served on the Instructional Leadership Team, the Hiring Committee, and the Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Team. Kyra enjoyed her transition into Oakland’s education policy scene with GO Public School’s Teacher Policy Fellowship where she focused on new teacher supports. Prior to joining the Mayor’s team, Kyra most recently participated in the Leadership for Educational Equity Public Policy Fellowship on the Oakland Promise team. Before that, she was an Urban Leaders Fellow, working on early asset building for the Oakland Promise and curating resources for Educate78’s School Design Lab. Kyra holds a BA in Anthropology from Brown University and a Master’s Degree in Urban Education with a focus on Policy and Administration from Loyola Marymount University. She has a passion for kids, their welfare, and their educational opportunities, and is excited to be part of a team dedicated to educational equity for Oakland students.
