Caheri Gutierrez is the Community Engagement Associate for the Oakland Promise within the Mayor’s Office. Caheri leads out the Oakland Promise’s Ambassador program – The Ambassador Program trains Oakland leaders to engage communities. This engagement will create widespread support and commitment to the long-term sustainability of the Oakland Promise. Caheri, an Oakland native, began her career in violence prevention after surviving a gunshot to her face. She committed to overcoming her injury and healing in mind, body and spirit. The care and concern she received as a client motivated her to dedicate her life to serving those in her community impacted by violence. Caheri served Oakland youth in the Oakland Unified School District as a Case Manager and also a Program Coordinator with Teens on Target (TNT) a violence prevention program within Youth Alive. She is currently studying at the Peralta Colleges with an academic plan to transfer to UC Berkeley.
